Copyright in Canada

A person who creates something is entitled to a “copyright” in that creation.

That means they own it, and no one else can “copy” it without their permission.

Usually, the copyright exists for the:

“Lifetime of the creator PLUS 50 years”.

There are many jurisdictions which follow that.

However, in June 2022, Canada extended the term another 20 years, so it is now:

“Lifetime of the creator PLUS 70 years”.
