Question:
I am the Listing agent and was entertaining multiple Offers. One of the Buyer’s agents wanted to forego their commission. I am not sure what to do here.
Answer:
If you are the Listing Agent, don’t get bullied, respect all the agents who have brought you Offers. Don’t force them to have “that” conversation with their buyers. Keep the cooperating commission and maintain a level playing field. Let that Buyer agent take their commission:
- pay their Brokerage,
- pay the HST,
- calculate their taxes, pay their income taxes (like everyone else) and
- then, with what’s leftover (their share) they can give as much of that as they want to their own client.
That’s their business. Requesting you to communicate this fact to other agents is your business and affects your reputation . Strong Listing Agents won’t get bullied here.
