Don’t Talk About Commissions on Internet Forums

(Ontario)

It is important to note that there is a $25 million fine under the Competition Act for “price-fixing”, including conspiracy to price fix.

This means that some discussions would be OK and many would be inappropriate and in fact illegal.

The result is that someone would have to know the Competition Act inside out and be ready to push the delete button instantly. That doesn’t make any sense for a voluntary Forum on Facebook.

Hence, the one simple rule. Don’t talk about commissions as in specific numbers as if that were the “going rate”.

If you are asking a question refer to your commission as being “X” and “X plus .5” etc. It’s best just to avoid numbers completely. Otherwise, those who administer the site, post, comment and participate are all at risk. You really don’t want to have to read all 100 comments on a post before you decide that it’s safe to post your comment.
